The Yoga Story

Yoga found me before I knew I was looking.

Summer/Fall 2009 through Spring of 2011

2011-2020

2020 - 2024

It started at Synergy Studios, one of my first jobs in wellness. Andrea's vinyasa classes were where I found my flow — and occasionally I'd wander into power or hot yoga, already chasing that heat.

A decade of weaving it in wherever life took me. A yoga class at community college (my dad's response: "You moved to California for this?"). A class or two in France. YouTube sessions on solo mornings. When I came back more consistently from 2018–2020, I fell in love all over again — Yoga Tree in the Castro and the Sunset, where pigeon pose always came with a sing-along. Turbo 26 at Stanford. CorePower pulling me back into the heat.

I was showing up to heated classes in a COVID mask because I knew I needed it. When I moved to Oahu, Hot Yoga North Shore in Wailua took me deeper than I'd ever gone. And then I made one of those pivotal leaps — trading the sanctuary I'd built for a program my mind curated, that combined yoga teacher training, surf camp, and the childhood trauma I'd spent years running from.

Today I hold yoga and surfing side by side with gratitude — not in competition, not as replacements for each other. Both are paths back to the self. Back to the body, the mind, my center.

Time and space, first

Everything else follows. A place where you don't have to figure anything out — where you can simply arrive,

and begin coming back to yourself.

SLOW

No rush to get anywhere. We move at the pace your body is asking for, not the pace you think you should be at.

STEADY

A consistent, grounding presence. You'll know what to expect — and from that steadiness, you can actually let go.

SAFE

This is your practice. No competition, no comparison. Just you, your mat, and permission to be exactly where you are.

The rest? Trust yourself. Stay with your breath.

That's always been enough.
